Alex Garland was born in London in 1970. His bestselling novel, The Beach has been translated into twenty-four languages, won a prestigious Betty Trask Award and was also adapted into a hugely successful feature film starring Leonardo DiCaprio. His second novel, The Tesseract was also highly acclaimed.
